Spagrillo is an Italian pasta brand that optimizes nutritional options to consumers through the usage of insects. In fact, it is the very first italian company in the market to produce pasta using insects as a key ingredient!
To take this to market, we'll launch in London to consumers and restaurants through an online subscription based service. The London dry pasta market by retail value is 129M kg in 2014, growing at about 6% per year over the last 6 years, and is highly fragmented. If we capture just 0.009% of this market, we will break even. This was validated in a market survey of over 1,000 UK consumers, where a third expressed interest in healthier pastas (of those that already eat whole wheat pasta, a quarter wanted even healthier options!) and 10% are willing to buy insect based foods. Additionally, samples we distributed resulted in 76% of samplers stating that they would buy it. We know the demand is there!
To deliver the highest quality products, we will manage the entire supply chain - from raising crickets, sanitizing them, processing them to flour, and producing the pasta. Our team is highly experienced with this process and have already started making this delicious pasta.
We are easily scalable, with step costs involved in additional investments to machinery. Our plan is to start in London, move into Italy (legal reasons prevent us from doing so immediately), and explore options for other products / markets.
